Ruben Amorim Faces Scrutiny After AC Milan's Europa League Loss

Ruben Amorim has drawn criticism for comments made after AC Milan's 2-0 Europa League defeat to Benfica at the San Siro on Thursday night. The loss marked Amorim's first defeat as the Italian club's manager.

Amorim, who previously managed Manchester United, suggested that his AC Milan players are not perfectly suited to his system, which he noted often involves a back three. This mirrors complaints he made during his time at Old Trafford.

"I think this team is a little bit different, they are more accustomed to working with three defenders, they are a little bit faster, a little bit stronger," Amorim told Sky Italia. "Of course, I don't have the clear characteristics that are perfect at this moment, but it is impossible when you take on a new team to have those perfect characteristics right away."

He requested patience from the club, acknowledging the pressure to win but stating his preference for challenging roles. "I know it will take time, but I also know that there is big pressure at this club, yet I prefer this kind of job because if I need to fail one day, I want to fail big," he added.

Amorim expressed his passion for AC Milan and his desire to improve the club, noting that his players seem receptive to his training methods. "I look at my players and I think they are listening to everything that I say in training, and that gives me hope we can solve these problems."

His remarks have faced criticism online, with some journalists and supporters questioning his public statements. TNT Sports commentator Adam Summerton, who covers Serie A, suggested that Amorim would benefit from speaking less. "One of the best things Ruben Amorim could do right now is stop talking. He says way too much," Summerton posted on social media.
