The RSPCA center in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire is appealing for adopters and donations after two rescue dogs, Kila and Susie, delivered a total of 21 puppies.
Kila, a five-year-old Cane Corso, gave birth to the largest litter the center has ever recorded, with 14 puppies arriving on August 3. She had been taken into the RSPCA's care in July from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, due to welfare concerns. Volunteers were unaware of her pregnancy until a veterinary visit for neutering revealed she was due to give birth within days.
Shortly before Kila's litter, Susie, another dog in the center's care, gave birth to seven puppies on July 28. Staff were surprised to find themselves caring for two litters due so close together.
While 14 of Kila's 14 puppies survived, three did not make it. The center is now responsible for 21 young dogs in total.
The puppies, including Cedric, Clark, Cornelius, Guinness, Jones, Lorenzo, Lucille, Marion, Roderick, Sarah, and Winnie from Kila's litter, are expected to be ready for new homes starting September 28. The center encourages interested families to contact them.
