Royals' Forays into Entertainment: A Mixed Record

Leah Isadora Behn, the 21-year-old daughter of Norway's Princess Martha-Louise, has recently entered the entertainment industry, adding to a list of royals who have attempted to forge careers in show business.

Her venture follows in the footsteps of other royal family members who have explored television and film. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, attempted to establish herself as a television personality with "With Love, Meghan," a Netflix lifestyle series. The show featured the duchess cooking, entertaining, and offering hosting tips from a rented California home. However, the series was ultimately axed.

Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, faced a different kind of public scrutiny for his involvement in the 1987 television game show "It's A Royal Knockout." Devised by Prince Edward, the program was intended to be a charity event featuring celebrities playing novelty games. Commentators have suggested that the show's perceived poor execution significantly altered public perceptions of the monarchy at the time.

Other royals have had varied experiences. Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, daughter of Prince Albert II of Monaco, has had minor roles in film and television projects. Sophie Winkleman, wife of Lord Frederick Windsor, appeared in the television series "Two and a Half Men."

Princess Anne's son, Peter Phillips, leveraged his royal connections to market Jersey-produced milk in China in 2020. Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, participated in a reality television show, "Duchess and Daughters, Their Secret Mission," reportedly wearing a disguise during filming.

In contrast to those with less successful ventures, the late Queen Elizabeth II garnered public affection through her televised appearance alongside Paddington Bear during the BBC's Platinum Party at the Palace in 2022. The segment was widely praised and seen as a heartwarming moment.
