Royals and A-Listers Shun Dated Handbag Brands for Modern Alternatives

Certain handbag brands once considered staples of sophisticated wardrobes are now seen as dated, according to fashion commentators. The Daily Mail suggests that labels like Radley, Michael Kors, and the 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' line may no longer align with contemporary style, recommending a shift towards brands favored by European royals and A-list celebrities.

While Radley bags were once perceived as symbols of success, their appeal has reportedly waned, potentially making owners appear "mumsy." Similarly, Michael Kors handbags are described as feeling as relevant as a compact disc, and the 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' line is advised against.

Instead, the focus is shifting to brands that have garnered approval from both royalty and Hollywood. The European label DeMellier, founded in 2017, has been seen on Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep. Kate Middleton has been a notable fan since 2021, carrying styles like the Nano Montreal bag and the Small Hudson bag.

Aspinal of London is another brand frequently seen in royal circles. Zara Tindall is reported to own a significant collection, and Princess Kate has been pictured with the Mini Mayfair bag multiple times. The brand has also gained traction with American celebrities, with Taylor Swift reportedly carrying their Trunk clutch.

Fairfax & Favor, characterized by its country-to-town aesthetic, is also favored by royals, including the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh. Zara Tindall, an official brand ambassador since March 2025, is often seen with styles such as the Connie bag, the Mini Loxley, and the Mini Windsor.

Scottish-designed Strathberry has also received royal endorsement. The Princess of Wales has been seen with the Multrees Chain Wallet, while Zara Tindall has carried the Mosaic Nano bag. The brand is noted for its timeless designs.

Dragon Diffusion, known for its woven leather handbags, is highlighted as a brand for fashion enthusiasts to explore. Celebrities like Dakota Johnson have been photographed with their Santa Croce Woven Handbag.

Mulberry, a classic brand, continues to be relevant. Princess Kate has a long-standing association with Mulberry, having worn styles such as the Amberley satchel. Zara Tindall has also chosen Mulberry bags for events like Royal Ascot. The brand is recognized for its enduring designs that have stood the test of time.
