Royal Navy Assists in Historic Cannon Restoration

The Royal Navy has played a crucial role in the restoration of 300-year-old cannons located at St. Michael's Mount in Cornwall. Due to the island's location, the cannons could only be transported for restoration by helicopter.

A Merlin Mk2 helicopter from Atlantic Flight 814 Naval Air Squadron was utilized to lift each cannon individually off the island. The operation was meticulously planned by the crew stationed at the Royal Naval Air Station at RNAS Culdrose, near Helston.

Years of exposure to the corrosive effects of salt spray had taken a toll on the cannons. The restoration work will be carried out by Dorothea Restorations in Bristol, where the historic artifacts will be treated to preserve them for future generations.
