Roy Burnham, the father of Prime Minister Andy Burnham, has died. Downing Street confirmed the news on Monday, stating that the Prime Minister has canceled his meetings for Monday and Tuesday.

Roy Burnham had been living with Alzheimer's disease. Shortly before his son became Prime Minister, Andy Burnham spoke about the personal sadness that his father would not be aware of his son's ascension to the nation's highest political office.

"That's a sadness because he would be (proud)," Burnham said in July, reflecting on visiting his father in a care home. He added, "The way I look at it, it's his achievement as well. A whole family achievement although he doesn't know it."
