Rosie O'Donnell has shared intimate details about a recent visit to a federal prison to see her daughter, Chelsea, marking what she described as the first extended conversation they have had in 10 years. Chelsea, 28, is currently serving an 18-month sentence at the Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

O'Donnell, 64, told Page Six that the conversation, which lasted longer than 15 minutes, was a significant moment given their history of estrangement. Chelsea was ordered to serve prison time in October after her probation was revoked following multiple felony arrests in 2024, including charges of child neglect and methamphetamine possession.

This visit follows O'Donnell's earlier public statements about her daughter's struggles with addiction. In a statement released when Chelsea was incarcerated late last year, O'Donnell expressed compassion, noting, "Chelsea was born into addiction and it has been a painful journey for her and her children. We continue to love and support her through these horrible times. Prayers welcomed."

During the recent prison visit, O'Donnell recalled an emotional moment when visitation hours were cut short due to bad weather. "That's the first time I've seen, kind of, an empathetic emotion from her," O'Donnell stated, adding, "So, you know, she's growing up. And I hope that her future is brighter than this past decade has been."

O'Donnell and Chelsea have had a complex relationship, marked by periods of estrangement throughout Chelsea's teenage and early adult years. Chelsea, now a mother of four, previously spoke about her relationship with O'Donnell in 2017, stating she needed space from her mother. The two later reconnected the following year when Chelsea was pregnant with her first child.

Chelsea's legal troubles intensified in late 2024 when she was arrested three times between September and November for felony charges including child neglect and methamphetamine possession. She was initially sentenced to six years of probation before her incarceration for allegedly violating its terms.

In addition to sharing details about her visit with Chelsea, O'Donnell recently posted on social media about visiting her son Blake and his infant son, Anthony. She also shared photos from a beach outing with Blake and her youngest child, Clay. O'Donnell adopted Chelsea as a baby with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter. The couple also share children Parker, 31, Blake, 26, and Vivienne, 23. O'Donnell's youngest child, Clay, 13, is with her late ex-wife Michelle Rounds.
