Rosanna Scotto, co-host of “Good Day New York,” returned to the airwaves Tuesday and became visibly emotional while remembering her mother, Marion Scotto, who died last month at the age of 90. This marked Scotto's first day back on the Fox 5 morning show since her mother's passing.
During the broadcast, a song played that prompted Scotto, 68, to recall her parents. "Sorry, sorry, this song reminds me of my parents," she said, according to People. She then became tearful.
“My mother would kill me right now if she saw me crying on the air, so we’re going to get it together,” Scotto told viewers, thanking them for their support following her mother’s death. Her co-anchor, Dan Bowens, offered condolences from the station and viewers.
Marion Scotto was described by her daughter as “the heart of Fresco by Scotto,” the family-owned Italian restaurant in Manhattan. Rosanna Scotto announced her mother's death on Instagram on August 26, sharing a tribute that highlighted Marion's dedication to family and hard work. Rosanna noted her mother’s “incredible courage” when she opened the restaurant in November 1993, believing that treating guests like family would lead to success.
For over 32 years, Fresco by Scotto has been a popular spot, with Marion Scotto greeting a clientele that included celebrities and political figures. Scotto mentioned in June that the restaurant's ability to make VIPs feel comfortable contributed to its appeal.
While the restaurant was significant, Scotto stated on social media that her mother’s greatest achievement was her family. Marion Scotto was the mother of four children, including Rosanna and Anthony Scotto Jr., and had eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
