Country singer Rory Feek has shared the harrowing experience of his youngest daughter, Indiana, being airlifted to a hospital after a sudden health crisis. The scare occurred just two weeks after Indiana, 12, underwent open-heart surgery.

Feek described in a Substack post how what began as a headache and cough for Indiana quickly escalated into a life-threatening emergency. Indiana, who was born with a ventricular septal defect, a congenital heart defect, collapsed after experiencing what Feek described as vomiting that sounded like a cough. He and his wife, Rebecca, feared for their daughter's life.

"We thought we had lost her," Feek wrote, recounting the moments leading up to calling 911 and holding their daughter while crying for help.

Indiana was initially taken to a hospital in Waco, Texas, but her condition necessitated specialized care in Austin. She was transported by helicopter while Feek drove separately. Doctors discovered a dangerous buildup of fluid around her heart, which was impairing its ability to pump effectively and causing her to lose color and struggle for oxygen. This complication stemmed from inflammation following her recent surgery.

Doctors performed an emergency surgery to remove 610 cubic centimeters of fluid from around Indiana's heart. X-rays revealed the swelling had doubled her heart's normal size. The procedure provided immediate relief, and doctors indicated that Indiana is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.

Feek noted that this recent emergency occurred shortly after Indiana's initial corrective surgery for her congenital heart defect. Indiana was released from the hospital on July 3, with doctors giving her a positive prognosis at the time. Feek had previously shared that approximately half of children born with Down syndrome, which Indiana has, experience heart issues.

The family has faced challenges, including Feek's adult daughter Hopie publicly stating that DNA tests revealed Feek is not her biological father, which strained their relationship. Feek has continued to document aspects of his family life through his Substack platform.
