Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp After Dispute With Manager Jesus

Cristiano Ronaldo has left the Portugal national team's training camp after a dispute with manager Jorge Jesus, reportedly stemming from comments made by Jesus in a press conference. Ronaldo flew to Madrid on his private jet after missing a third consecutive training session and was not present for Portugal's match against Denmark.

Portugal secured a 4-2 victory against Denmark in the match following Ronaldo's departure. Manager Jorge Jesus insisted he has a clear conscience and that the team remains united. "I don't have a group in my hand. I have a group that believes in the coach's ideas," Jesus stated. "They believe in my ideas and, because they have a lot of individual quality, things become easier."

Ronaldo confirmed his departure in a statement on Instagram, indicating he would later reveal the full reasons behind his decision. "In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself," Ronaldo wrote. "Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates."

Reports in Portugal suggest Ronaldo could face a suspension ranging from one to six months for potentially abandoning the team, according to the Portuguese Football Federation's disciplinary code. The code states that any player who "unjustifiably abandons or fails to appear for training, a match, or any activity of the national teams or related to the sporting representation of the FPF or Portugal, will be sanctioned with a suspension of one to six months."

Jesus, who also managed Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, maintained his focus on the team's performance. "What's important is what we have to do. The things that happen don't separate the group, they haven't separated us and they won't separate us," he said. He acknowledged that Ronaldo had been "angry" with him after being benched for the entire match against Norway, a decision Jesus explained was purely tactical.

Footage showed Ronaldo walking off down the tunnel after sitting out the win against Norway. Jesus described the situation as nothing to "make a fuss about," explaining that no player is happy when they warm up and are not brought into the game. He had initially planned to give Ronaldo a 30-minute cameo against Norway but ultimately decided against it, a decision that appears to have escalated the rift.

Fans showed divided support in the stands during the match against Denmark, with some displaying messages of support for Jesus while others held banners featuring Ronaldo's face and name. The team held a meeting with Ronaldo and the federation president on Wednesday morning, which was initially described as amicable, but the situation intensified after Jesus's subsequent press conference.
