Romanian Nationals Arrested for Jewelry Theft on Long Island

Two Romanian nationals, Mirabela Lacatusu, 26, and Rudi Lacatusu, 28, have been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a $2,000 gold necklace from a senior citizen in Valley Stream, New York. The Nassau County Police Department reported that the incident occurred on a Monday afternoon when the pair approached the 73-year-old victim outside her home.

According to authorities, Mirabela Lacatusu, a passenger in a gold Mitsubishi, asked the victim for directions to a local BJ's Wholesale Club. After receiving the directions, Mirabela offered the woman a hug and presented her with two imitation necklaces. During this interaction, she allegedly stole the victim's real gold necklace without her immediate knowledge. The suspects then fled the scene.

Following a brief investigation, detectives identified and apprehended the suspects. Both are residents of Ontario, Canada. Police believe the pair may be involved in similar "hug-and-run" style thefts throughout Nassau County and are exploring the possibility of additional victims.
