Romanian National Deported After Arson Attacks Linked to Former UK Prime Minister
Stanislav Carpiuc, convicted of arson targeting properties connected to a former prime minister, has been deported from the UK.
Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc, who was convicted in June for his involvement in arson attacks targeting a former prime minister's car and property, has been deported from the United Kingdom.
The attacks occurred between April and May 2025. The first incident took place on May 8, 2025, when a car previously owned by the former prime minister was found ablaze on a street in Kentish Town. Three days later, on May 11, a fire was discovered at flats in nearby Islington, properties linked to the former prime minister from years prior. The following day, another fire was found at the entrance of his former home in Kentish Town, which was being rented by his sister-in-law, Judith Alexander.
Alexander recounted witnessing thick black smoke rising up the stairs while she was inside the house with her partner and daughter.
Carpiuc and another individual, Lavrynovych, were found guilty of conspiring to damage property by fire. A BBC investigation suggested these arson attacks were part of a broader campaign of sabotage and provocation with connections to the Russian state. Evidence indicated that Lavrynovych's handler, identified as 'EL', offered Russian citizenship in exchange for further attacks and expressed admiration for President Vladimir Putin. 'EL' was identified by BBC evidence as a young Russian diplomat.
