A Romanian national and her partner are awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to charges including manslaughter, stemming from a scheme where they drugged men with gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) before robbing them. Two victims died after ingesting the drug.

Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, admitted to drugging four men they met through classified advertising websites. Mihai, posing as a sex worker, would arrange meetings at the victims' homes. Her partner, Dumitru, would wait outside while Mihai administered GBL, often in wine, to incapacitate the men. She would then steal watches, jewelry, and cash before leaving the victims unconscious.

Two of the victims, Malcolm King, 80, a wealthy businessman and big game hunter, and Gary Mouat, 36, died from fatal doses of the drug. King was found deceased in his £4 million Cotswold mansion on August 21, 2024, by his housekeeper. Mouat was discovered unresponsive by family friends at his home on July 13, 2025.

At a previous hearing, the pair pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and to administering poison to two other victims who cannot be identified for legal reasons. The Crown's case is that the defendants did not intend to kill their victims but to render them unconscious to facilitate theft. Prosecutors stated the pair seemed to rely on the victims' potential reluctance to report the crimes to the police.

Mouat's nine-year-old son, Alfie, shared a poignant statement in court about the impact of his father's death, stating, "You have ruined my life and all the plans we had to do things together. My family is destroyed now." Louise Mouat, Gary Mouat's wife, told the defendants, "On July 13 last year our lives changed forever because of what you did. I had to tell my eight-year-old son that his daddy had died."

Mr. King's daughter, Caroline King, expressed her regret over a strained relationship with her father, stating, "I believed there would be time. Time for difficult conversations. Time to understand each other. Time to forgive. Time to heal." She added, "The defendants did not simply unlawfully take my father's life. They stole the future that both he and I still had the possibility of writing together."

Mihai and Dumitru would travel from Ilford to the victims' homes. In one instance, a third victim paid Mihai £450 and later awoke to find his Rolex watch missing. A week later, a fourth victim arranged a meeting for £360.

During the investigation into Mr. King's death, cardiologists were able to determine the circumstances by analyzing his pacemaker data, as he had long-term heart conditions. In Mr. Mouat's home, an open bottle of wine and two glasses were found near his body.
