A Romanian couple has admitted to killing two businessmen and poisoning two others with a date rape drug as part of a scam involving fake escort services. Adina Mihai, 31, and her partner Madalin Dumitru, 30, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of administering poison with intent to injure at Oxford Crown Court.

Mihai posed as a sex worker to gain access to wealthy men's homes, where she would drug them with gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) before stealing their valuables. Dumitru would wait outside the victims' residences to facilitate their escape.

The first victim, Malcolm King, 83, a property magnate and renowned big game hunter, died in August 2024 after Mihai spiked his wine with GBL. Police initially believed King, who had pre-existing heart conditions, died of natural causes. However, the investigation took a new direction when another businessman died in similar circumstances nearly a year later.

Gary Mouat, 37, who owned a large glazing company in Oxfordshire, was found dead at his home on July 13, 2025, hours after his drink was drugged with GBL. On the same day, Mihai met a third victim who survived the attack after waking up and discovering his watch was missing.

Mihai continued her criminal activities, meeting a fourth man on July 22, 2025, who also reported items missing from his home. On July 30, she met a fifth victim who had found her profile on the Vivastreet website. Mihai and Dumitru were arrested later that morning as they fled the fifth victim's home.

Police believe the couple targeted men who appeared wealthy, often asking them to show cash during video calls before agreeing to meet. Victims reportedly paid around £170 per hour for the fake escort services. Detectives suspect the pair may have had numerous other victims, but some may be hesitant to come forward due to embarrassment. The couple legally arrived in the UK in 2023.

Thames Valley Police and Gloucestershire Constabulary led the investigation. Detective Inspector Michael Roddy of Thames Valley Police stated that the operation was complex and involved multiple agencies. Detective Inspector Adam Stacey of Gloucestershire Constabulary added that the evidence left Mihai and Dumitru with no choice but to plead guilty. Sentencing for the pair is scheduled for next month, with Mrs. Justice Brunner indicating they face substantial prison terms.
