Cyclist Rohan Dennis, once known as "Angry Rohan" for his fiery temperament on and off the track, has been banned from his children's primary school in Adelaide for the third school term. The ban follows multiple warnings over alleged poor behavior towards school staff.

Dennis, a former world champion cyclist, has faced significant personal turmoil since the death of his wife, Olympian Melissa Hoskins, in December 2023. Hoskins died after being struck by Dennis's Volkswagen Amarok near their Adelaide home. Dennis was subsequently charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving without due care, and endangering life. He was convicted of one aggravated count of committing an act likely to cause harm and was disqualified from driving for five years.

More recently, Dennis pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified with his two children as passengers, an offense for which he faces potential jail time and the activation of a previously suspended sentence.

The school ban is not related to criminal charges but is reportedly due to repeated alleged behavioral issues directed at staff. Dennis has previously spoken openly about his struggles with depression and mental health, which he stated have impacted his demeanor, relationships, and performance throughout his career. These issues were a topic of frank conversations with his late wife.

During his professional cycling career, Dennis's temper became a public talking point. Rival cyclist Alex Dowsett wrote in his book that Dennis had a "verbal tirade" backstage after a competition where Dowsett had won gold, despite Dennis appearing gracious in defeat initially. Dowsett described this as "raging with anger" after having the gold medal "snatched from him right at the end."

An online Instagram page also satirized cyclists using Dennis's image, reflecting his public persona. In 2019, Dennis dramatically withdrew from the Tour de France, citing personal family reasons and fears that his marriage could be impacted by his struggles with the team environment. He expressed concerns about becoming "not a good or happy person to be around."

Dennis and Hoskins married in 2018 and had two children, a son born in 2018 and a daughter in 2021. Before her death, Dennis had shared on social media his anticipation for spending more time with his children in 2024, away from his cycling career.

The South Australian Department of Education confirmed that formal notices are used to ensure schools remain safe environments, and parents who breach standards can face warnings or barring orders for up to six months if they pose a risk or cause disruption.
