Rod Stewart, 81, appeared to be in good health and spirits while attending a Celtic football match on Wednesday evening with his son, Alastair. The legendary musician, a self-proclaimed Celtic fan, was present for the UEFA Champions League play-off match between Celtic and Austrian team LASK at Celtic Park in Glasgow.
The appearance comes shortly after Stewart was forced to cancel the remainder of his 2026 tour dates and take four weeks to recover from a routine coronary stent procedure. His team confirmed the news on Instagram, stating that doctors were pleased with his recovery and that he had returned to his normal daily activities. "On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage," the statement read, adding that information regarding affected performances would be communicated by promoters and venues.
Stewart himself commented on the situation, expressing his gratitude to the medical staff and disappointment over missing shows. "I'm already feeling better and very much on the mend," he said. "I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me. I'm deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon."
This recent health procedure follows a series of postponements and cancellations earlier in the year. In August, Stewart pulled out of a gig in Cincinnati due to an "unforeseen but minor medical procedure." In June, he canceled a concert in California citing a respiratory infection that led to laryngitis. He also postponed shows in Colorado in June, requiring vocal rest. Around the same time, he was seen using an oxygen tank on stage during a concert in Utah, which may have been related to the venue's altitude.
Stewart previously addressed fan criticism after attending Scotland's World Cup match against Haiti just a day after canceling a show due to ill health. He explained to talkSPORT that he had promised his sons he would take them to a World Cup, stating, "I wasn't going to let my two sons down. I promised them since they were born that we were going to go to a World Cup. And this is the first one that's come about."
