Rod Stewart Announces Farewell Tour After Six Decades
The 81-year-old rocker revealed his upcoming "The Final Encore" tour will be his last.
Rock and roll legend Rod Stewart, 81, has announced his retirement from the stage, marking the end of a career spanning over six decades. Stewart revealed his decision follows a recent heart surgery and a period of recovery.
His final tour, titled "The Final Encore," is scheduled to begin in Dublin on April 23 next year and conclude in Hannover, Germany, on July 24. The tour will include UK dates in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, and London. Howard Jones, known for his 1980s hits, is set to be the support act for the UK and Ireland shows.
Stewart, who has been touring since the 1960s, shared the news in a video post, stating, "After much deliberation and sadness I have to announce that next year will be my last tour forever ever. This will be the last rock and roll tour." He expressed gratitude to his fans, saying, "I want to thank you for everything you have given me and hopefully I’ve given you something in return."
The singer underwent surgery last month to fit a coronary stent after doctors discovered a blockage related to a previously undisclosed heart issue. This led to the postponement of some dates on his "One Last Time" farewell tour earlier this year. His wife, Penny Lancaster, confirmed he was recovering well and would "come back stronger than ever."
Stewart's career began with The Jeff Beck Group and the Faces. As a solo artist, he has achieved 25 UK Top 10 singles, including six number ones such as "You Wear It Well," "Sailing," and "Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?"
Tickets for "The Final Encore" tour are currently available via fan club presale, with general release starting October 2. Stewart had previously canceled tour dates in June due to an acute upper respiratory infection, laryngitis, and vocal strain, and again after his heart surgery to allow for recovery. His spokesman stated at the time that doctors were pleased with his progress and that Stewart had returned to normal daily activities but was advised to rest for four weeks.
Stewart made a public appearance with his wife, Penny Lancaster, 55, and friends Richard Marx and Daisy Fuentes, shortly after announcing his retirement. Lancaster, a model, was seen draped around Stewart's shoulder outside the restaurant Lucky Cat.
