Rock Star Sawyer Hill Describes Tour Bus Crash That Killed Driver
Sawyer Hill recounts the harrowing moments of a tour bus rollover that occurred after the driver suffered a fatal medical emergency.
Rock star Sawyer Hill has shared a harrowing account of a tour bus crash that resulted in the death of the driver, David Jackson, 50. The incident occurred as the bus, carrying Hill and his band and crew, traveled from Denver to Salt Lake City.
Hill, 27, described in an Instagram video how the bus suddenly "hit a big bump" and veered across highway lanes before overturning into a ditch. He recounted the terrifying sensation of the bus overcorrecting from side to side, leading him to believe they were about to die. "Everything starts shaking and metal starts scraping and then crash. I get thrown out of my bunk in complete darkness," Hill said.
Upon lights coming on, Hill witnessed chaos, with the lighting guy bleeding profusely from his face and the merch person bleeding from the back of her head while attempting to provide aid. Hill himself sustained a significant leg bruise spanning from his knee to his ankle.
First responders informed the survivors that they were lucky to be alive, a sentiment Hill echoed. "Thank God and I wish we were all still here but we’re all lucky to be alive," he stated.
Hill expressed gratitude to first responders and to fans who have contributed over $20,000 to a GoFundMe campaign established to support Jackson's family. Jackson was the sole fatality in the crash.
