The ringleader of a Rochdale grooming gang, Shabir Ahmed, who targeted girls as young as 12, has been released from prison. Ahmed, known to his victims as 'Daddy,' was sentenced to 22 years in August 2012 for multiple child sexual offenses, including rape.

Victims were informed this week that Ahmed, now 73, would be released on license. Despite earlier assurances, deportation is not possible due to a law enacted 55 years ago. The BBC has learned that Ahmed has left prison and is currently residing in secure accommodation, subject to electronic monitoring via a GPS tag.
