Robin Mattson, Iconic Soap Villain, Makes Rare Public Appearance

Robin Mattson, the actress celebrated for her portrayal of the notorious Heather Webber on "General Hospital," has made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles.

Mattson, 70, stepped away from the spotlight in 2016, concluding a four-decade tenure as one of daytime television's most memorable villains. Her performance as Heather Webber earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1983 and multiple Soapy Awards for Best Villainess. She first joined "General Hospital" in 1980.

Mattson's career in soap operas began in 1976 with her role as Hope Bauer on "Guiding Light." Her extensive resume also includes appearances on "Santa Barbara," "The Bold and the Beautiful," and "All My Children."

Her character, Heather Webber, was recast in 2022 after Mattson underwent hip replacement surgery. She had previously revealed on Facebook in 2022 that she was recovering from knee surgery and was scheduled for hip replacement surgery, thanking fans for their support and expressing hope for a swift recovery.

Mattson's time on "General Hospital" was marked by scandalous storylines, including seducing Edward Quartermaine and attempting to murder Carly Jacks. She initially left "General Hospital" in 1983 but returned for subsequent stints, including a six-month period in 2004 and a longer run from 2012 to 2016.

Following her departure from "General Hospital," Mattson took on the role of Gina Capwell on "Santa Barbara" from 1985 to 1993, a performance that garnered her a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Comic Performance by an Actress: Daytime, along with two nominations. She later portrayed Janet Green on "All My Children" from 1994 to 2000.

Mattson's acting career began at a young age; she made her screen debut in the 1966 film "Namu The Killer Whale" at age seven. She also starred alongside Nick Nolte and Don Johnson in the 1975 film "Return to Macon County."
