Robert De Niro Reportedly in Talks to Portray Tommy Lasorda in Upcoming Film

Robert De Niro is reportedly in negotiations to play the iconic Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda in an upcoming biographical film titled "Tommy & Me." The movie is expected to chronicle the life of the Hall of Fame baseball figure.

Details regarding the film's narrative approach are still emerging, but George Gallo, Cambron Clark, and Reid Carolin are credited with the script. Skydance Sports is anticipated to produce the project.

Lasorda, celebrated for his passionate personality and enduring presence, managed the Dodgers from 1973 to 1996. During his tenure, he led the team to two World Series championships in 1981 and 1988 and earned National League Manager of the Year honors in 1983 and 1988. His No. 2 jersey was retired by the Dodgers in 1997, the same year he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Following his managing career, Lasorda remained involved with the Dodgers, serving in various front-office roles including vice president, senior vice president, and special advisor from 1998 until 2021. He is recognized for his contributions, such as his role in scouting and signing player Mike Piazza.

Lasorda began his baseball journey as a player with the Dodgers in 1954 when the team was still based in Brooklyn. His playing career was brief, spanning two seasons with the Dodgers before being traded to the Kansas City Athletics in 1956. He then played in the Minor Leagues for four seasons before retiring as a player after the 1960 season.

Lasorda passed away in January 2021 at a hospital near his home in Fullerton. De Niro, known for portraying intense characters, has an extensive filmography that includes roles in "Taxi Driver," "The Godfather Part II," and "Goodfellas."
