Robert Davi Cites Crime, Politics for Move from California to Florida

Actor and singer Robert Davi has relocated his family from Los Angeles to Florida, citing concerns over rising homelessness, crime rates, and what he describes as political mismanagement in California.

Davi, born in Queens, New York, moved to Los Angeles in 1977 for his acting career. He has held notable roles in films such as "The Goonies," "Die Hard," and the James Bond film "License to Kill."

In an interview, Davi detailed his reasons for leaving, pointing to the "overwhelming influx of homelessness in all communities, the political corruption and the waste of money by the local education agencies in Los Angeles." He also criticized the handling of the Los Angeles fires.

Davi noted a significant increase in crime and a perceived lack of accountability, observing that stores now require gates and guards, with items often locked away due to rampant theft. "It’s about people coming in and the acceptable aspect of going into any store and ripping off what they want and not being stopped," he said.

A specific incident that contributed to his decision was the home invasion and killing of Jacqueline Avant in December 2021. Avant, 81, was the wife of music executive Clarence Avant. Davi expressed that this event, involving a suspect who had reportedly been released multiple times, was "the nail in my coffin."

Beyond public safety concerns, Davi also spoke about a perceived political blacklist in Hollywood due to his support for former President Donald Trump. He recalled a time when conservatives in Hollywood felt more comfortable expressing their political views, contrasting it with the current climate.

Davi and his family moved to Florida in January, marking four years since their departure from California. He has also been outspoken on political issues, including recent criticisms regarding a map of New York City's immigrant enclaves that initially omitted Little Italy.
