Robert Carlyle Joins "The Gentlemen" Cast; Meghan Markle Not Cast
Scottish actor Robert Carlyle has reportedly been cast in Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen," while speculation about Meghan Markle's involvement has been dismissed.
Robert Carlyle, known for his role as Begbie in "Trainspotting," is the latest addition to the all-star cast of Guy Ritchie's Netflix series "The Gentlemen." The 65-year-old actor is set to appear alongside Theo James, Vinnie Jones, and Kaya Scodelario in the show, which has been renewed for a third season.
Sources close to the production confirmed that Carlyle would be announced as part of the upcoming cast, with lead actor Theo James expressing a desire to work with the veteran performer. "Robert is an industry icon and Theo himself made it clear he wanted him to be part of the show," a source told The Sun.
Meanwhile, reports that Meghan Markle would be cast in the series have been definitively shut down. A source stated, "Meghan though is now out of contention. There was a meeting but it's been decided she won't be part of the cast."
Theo James humorously addressed rumors about Markle's potential involvement, joking that Prince Harry would be playing one of his love interests. He later commented that while Markle, being from the Royal Family, might seem a fitting addition, the practicalities would be impossible. Ray Winstone and Hugh Bonneville also dismissed the speculation.
James had previously expressed admiration for Carlyle, saying he would love to see someone with his intensity join the show. Maya Jama, who made her acting debut in the second series, is also expected to return.
The second season of "The Gentlemen" follows James's character, Eddie, as he attempts to gain full control of his estate amidst the criminal underworld. His ambitions to expand their operations, including efforts to "decriminalize marijuana," are met with resistance from drug baron Bobby Glass.
