Robbie Williams, 52, has revealed his insecurities regarding hair loss and is contemplating the use of a toupee. The singer discussed his concerns about physical appearance in the entertainment industry during an appearance on The Steve Bracknall podcast.
"I'm losing my hair - this is all powder and scaffolding now," Williams stated on the podcast. "Can you see the powder?" He explained that hair powder is a styling product used to add volume and texture to thinning hair. Williams expressed that as a pop star, there's an expectation to maintain a certain look, including having hair.
He further shared his consideration of getting a hair system, also known as a toupee, which is a partial hairpiece designed to cover thinning areas or bald spots. "I'm thinking about getting one of those hair systems. Have you seen them?"
This conversation about his hair follows recent revelations from Williams about his health. Earlier in the month, he disclosed a diagnosis of "a little bit of autism" and admitted to still struggling with intrusive thoughts. This diagnosis came after he had previously shared that he has ADHD.
Williams described using his autism diagnosis as a "get-out-of-jail-free card" and a way to understand his past behaviors. He also mentioned his ADHD diagnosis, noting its impact on his ability to concentrate intensely on certain tasks, such as creative work, while finding it difficult to focus on others. He elaborated that his mind is highly creative and can be directed towards creating images and humor to avoid dwelling on worries or fears.
"What I'm completely and utterly obsessed with is creating images and making funny things, if I'm creating images and funny things, I'm not thinking about me, because my brain is incredibly creative, and it can be creative about everything in the world that you panic or scared about," he said.
Williams also touched upon the intrusive thoughts he experiences, recounting an instance on a plane where he worried about telekinesis causing the plane to crash. He stated that channeling his brain into creative pursuits is a better alternative than worrying about such matters.
The singer has previously shared that he has been diagnosed with ADHD three times and, in October, revealed he has been secretly living with Tourette syndrome. He explained that while he has the condition, his tics manifest as intrusive thoughts rather than involuntary sounds or movements. Williams noted that even large crowds do not distract him from these internal struggles.
He has spoken about his past struggles with addiction, including multiple stints in rehab for alcohol and drug use since rising to fame in the early 1990s. Despite decades of performing to large audiences, Williams admitted he still experiences significant anxiety about touring.
