Robbery Suspect Hunted for Killing Teen in South LA Hit-and-Run
Authorities are searching for Raygine Glentasia Evans, who is wanted in connection with multiple robberies and now accused of a fatal pedestrian crash.
Los Angeles police are searching for Raygine Glentasia Evans, a suspect wanted in connection with 10 robberies across the city, who is also accused of a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 16-year-old boy and critically injured his younger sister.
Authorities identified Evans, who has reportedly been cited nine times for reckless driving and running stop signs, on Thursday. The Los Angeles Police Department is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to her arrest.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on September 22, at the intersection of 10th Avenue and 60th Street in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Evans is accused of running a stop sign at high speed and striking siblings Hernan Martinez, 16, and Vicky, 13, as they crossed the street with their mother. Hernan was pronounced dead at the scene, while Vicky was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Surveillance footage captured two women fleeing the vehicle after the crash. Police identified the passenger as Joannae Shavon Rosby. The women were seen getting into another vehicle and leaving the scene.
A neighbor, Jerome Alexander, told ABC7 he heard the crash and discovered Vicky partially trapped beneath a parked vehicle. He described the scene as a "nightmarish scene."
"We heard a loud bang. Honestly, it was so loud it sounded like someone hit a building or a car," Alexander said. "The daughter was partially under our car. At first, she wasn’t conscious and then her mom started talking to her and her eyes popped open."
Alexander also reported that a man returned to the wrecked Nissan, retrieved a baby from the back seat, and left. When confronted, the man reportedly showed little concern for the victims.
Hernan's older brother, Eliseo Martinez, described Hernan as a sweet and talented teenager who loved baking and sewing. "He was only 16 years old and had so much life ahead of him," Eliseo wrote on a GoFundMe page established to help the family. "Losing him so unexpectedly has left a pain in our family that is difficult to put into words."
The family has launched a GoFundMe to assist with expenses, raising more than $18,000 toward a $22,000 goal.
Anyone with information regarding Evans' whereabouts is urged to contact LAPD South Traffic Division Officer Hurd at 213-321-9681 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
