Two individuals, Stephen Bradley, 56, and David Oakley, 48, have been sentenced to four years in prison following a bungled armed robbery at Maddy's Store in New Mills, Derbyshire. The pair entered the store using a fake gun, demanding cash and making off with cigarettes, money, and alcohol.
During the heist, captured on CCTV, the two men attempted to disguise their identities by using a fake Liverpool accent and quarreling over how to carry the stolen goods. One individual was observed struggling to manage the loot due to the gloves he was wearing. They also claimed they needed to hurry to reach Liverpool, despite living only a few minutes from the store. In an attempt to further obscure their identities, one robber referred to the other as 'Charles'.
Oakley was also documented on the CCTV footage pausing to apologize to the shopkeeper, stating, "Sorry love, sorry love, we really are. We'll never come again, we'll never hurt you. We're very sorry."
Despite these efforts, the men were identified by witnesses and apprehended by armed police at a nearby address within days of the robbery. Investigators found a significant quantity of tobacco, nine bottles of Jack Daniel's whiskey, and a silver pellet gun at the property.
Bradley pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. Oakley admitted to robbery and possession of a knife. Both were sentenced to four years imprisonment at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
