A Los Angeles County grand jury has indicted Nick Reiner on murder charges in the killings of his parents, actor Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. The indictment also includes the allegation that he was lying in wait before attacking them.

The grand jury returned the indictment on July 20, and it was unsealed Wednesday when Nick Reiner entered a not guilty plea. The director, actor, and Hollywood figure Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles on December 14. Nick Reiner was arrested hours later and charged two days after the incident.

The grand jury indictment bypasses California's preliminary hearing process, where evidence is typically presented publicly. The unsealed indictment provides limited new details regarding the case, which has been under seal. However, the specific allegation of lying in wait, along with other circumstances, makes Reiner eligible for the death penalty. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to pursue that possibility.
