Rob Lowe's Son Shares Poem After Cousin's Death

John Owen Lowe, son of actor Rob Lowe, shared a poem on social media following the death of his 13-year-old cousin, Fiona.
Over the weekend, the 30-year-old actor posted Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope Is the Thing With Feathers" on his Instagram Stories. The poem reads, "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all."
Fiona, the middle daughter of Rob Lowe's younger brother Chad Lowe and his wife Kim Painter, died by suicide on Tuesday, September 29. Emergency services responded to the family home in Los Angeles at 12:10 a.m., and the teenager was pronounced dead at an area hospital at 1:14 a.m.

Family members have shared tributes to Fiona. Her older sister, Mabel, posted a carousel of throwback photos on Instagram, writing, "I love you so much Fiona. I wish your short time here was easier and I hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive."
Mabel also reposted video tributes from Fiona's former dance teacher and the youth club she attended. Kendra Andrews, Fiona's dance teacher, recalled the week after Fiona's home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires, noting the young dancer's enthusiasm and hard work.
Widget Works, a youth group and camp, shared a tribute to Fiona, recalling her love for beach days and her "sweet sassiness." Fiona's mother commented on the post, "Love you so much."
Rob and Kim Lowe remembered Fiona in a statement to People, calling her "a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance." They added, "Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time." They also directed those struggling with mental health to the 988 Suicide + Crisis Lifeline.
Chad Lowe had previously spoken about the privilege of being a father to his three daughters, including Fiona. Last year, he posted a picture of Fiona celebrating her 13th birthday, writing, "Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!"
In January 2025, Chad Lowe shared a photo of his daughters returning to the site of their family home after it was evacuated due to wildfires, noting their resilience. He called being their father his "life's greatest joy and privilege."
