Rob Lowe's Son Mugged at Knifepoint After Ignoring Actor's NYC Warning
The actor shared that his son, John Owen Lowe, was targeted by a knife-wielding assailant after failing to heed his father's advice about staying aware in the city.
Actor Rob Lowe recounted an incident where his son, John Owen Lowe, was mugged at knifepoint in New York City, a consequence of ignoring his father's cautionary advice.
Lowe, appearing on the "Chicks in the Office" podcast, described how his sons, who grew up in Santa Barbara, were not accustomed to the urban environment of New York. He advised John Owen to "keep your head on a swivel" before heading out in the city. Despite his father's warnings, John Owen was reportedly home by midnight with a black eye, having been mugged by an individual with a knife.
"He was home by midnight with a black eye," Lowe shared. "And had gotten mugged by a guy with a knife because he was on his phone not paying attention."
Lowe commented on the common parental challenge of children believing they know best, stating, "But that's the thing is like, you know, it's like all kids are clueless experts."
John Owen Lowe, who has followed his father into the entertainment industry, co-created and starred alongside Rob Lowe in the Netflix comedy "Unstable." The series, which ran for two seasons, drew inspiration from their real-life father-son relationship. Prior to that, John Owen also wrote for his father's Fox series "9-1-1: Lone Star."
Rob Lowe and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, also have another son, Matthew Lowe, who pursued a different path, graduating from Duke University and earning a law degree from Loyola Law School. Both sons reside in California, allowing the family to maintain close ties, with Lowe reporting they speak multiple times daily and see each other frequently.
