Rob Lowe's family gathered for a star-studded wedding in Santa Barbara as his son, Matthew, married Emily Markus over the weekend. The celebration occurred nearly two weeks after the tragic death of Lowe's 13-year-old niece, Fiona, who died by suicide on September 29.
The outdoor ceremony was officiated by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, with Rob Lowe and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, in attendance. Their other son, John, 30, also attended the nuptials. Guests included Katy Perry, Adam Levine, Cameron Diaz, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, and Maria Shriver.
Matthew, 33, wore a classic black suit, while his bride, Emily Markus, wore a strapless white gown. The couple became engaged in 2025 after several years of dating.
It remains unclear if Matthew's uncle, Chad Lowe, and his family were present at the ceremony. Chad Lowe had stepped back from the public eye following his daughter Fiona's death. He recently returned to social media, sharing an excerpt from an interview with writer Gerry Hussey on his Instagram Stories, which discussed the state of the soul after death.
Days prior to Chad's social media activity, Rob Lowe's eldest son, John Owen, shared a poem by Emily Dickinson titled "Hope Is the Thing With Feathers" in tribute to Fiona. The poem speaks of hope residing in the soul and enduring through storms.
Fiona was the middle daughter of Chad Lowe and his wife, Kim Painter. The couple also have two other daughters, Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. Emergency services responded to the family home on September 29, and Fiona was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after.
In a statement to People, Rob and Sheryl Lowe remembered Fiona as "a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance." They added, "Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time." The statement also provided the 988 Suicide + Crisis Lifeline number for those struggling with mental health.
