Rob Lowe Joins Brother Chad, Son John, After Niece Fiona's Death
Actor Rob Lowe was seen heading to his brother Chad's Los Angeles home with his son John Owen Lowe, following the confirmation that Chad's 13-year-old daughter, Fiona, died by suicide.
Rob Lowe visited his younger brother Chad's home in Los Angeles on Thursday, accompanied by his son John Owen Lowe, as the family grieves the tragic death of Chad's 13-year-old daughter, Fiona. The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner officially concluded that Fiona died by suicide.
Emergency services were called to the family home early Tuesday morning. The teen was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. The autopsy report indicated her body could be released to her parents.
The Lowe family released a statement Tuesday confirming Fiona's death, describing her as "a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance." The statement added, "She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives."
The family also urged anyone struggling with mental health issues to seek help through suicide prevention hotlines. Fiona is survived by her parents, Chad and Kim Painter, and her sisters, Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.
Chad Lowe's former co-star David Boreanaz, who starred with him on the series Bones, shared a tribute to Fiona and provided the number for a suicide helpline. Boreanaz posted a photo of himself with his son, Chad's wife Kim Painter, and two of her daughters, including Fiona, writing, "My Deepest condolences to my friends Chad and Kim with the loss of their beautiful soul, Fiona. May she be surrounded in light and dance in heaven with all the angels."
Fiona's grandfather, Charles Lowe, Rob and Chad's father, also shared a tribute on Wednesday, posting a photograph of Fiona smiling while swimming and writing, "Rest in peace sweet Fiona."
Parents at Fiona's school received an email from the principal on Tuesday informing them of a student's death, offering condolences and stating that counselors were available for emotional support.
Chad Lowe has frequently shared his pride in being a father to his three daughters, referring to himself as a "girl dad." In a podcast interview in August 2024, he spoke about how having daughters has deepened his understanding of women's perspectives and societal inequalities. He also shared his enjoyment of attending a Taylor Swift concert with his daughters in 2023.
Chad Lowe, known for his roles in ER, 24, and Melrose Place, married Kim Painter in 2010. His previous marriage to actress Hilary Swank ended in divorce in 2007 after 10 years. He won an Emmy Award in 1993 for his supporting role in the comedy-drama Life Goes On.
