Rob Gronkowski Labels Los Angeles Chargers 'Biggest Mess in the NFL'

Rob Gronkowski, a former NFL tight end, has declared the Los Angeles Chargers "probably the biggest mess in the NFL" amid the team's difficult start to the 2026 season. The Chargers, under head coach Jim Harbaugh, have begun the year with an 0-2 record.

Gronkowski made his comments during an event for Bounty, where he was asked to identify the biggest mess in the league after the first two weeks. While he initially considered the Miami Dolphins, he determined their struggles were somewhat expected due to roster questions entering the season. In contrast, he argued that the Chargers' 0-2 start was not anticipated, especially given their matchups against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, teams not widely projected as contenders.

"That’s a mess over there right now," Gronkowski stated. "They gotta just grab a Bounty paper towel and wipe off all their linemen, because they’re not clean. They’re dirty and they’re falling all over the place. Get the blocks down schematically and keep Justin Herbert clean in the pocket so he can perform."

The Chargers' offensive struggles have been a significant concern. The team has averaged only 14 points per game, ranking third-lowest in the league. They are also 23rd in total offensive yards per game. Quarterback Justin Herbert has shown signs of difficulty, completing 59.3% of his passes, with two touchdowns and three interceptions through two games. Gronkowski noted that the offensive line, a long-standing issue for the team, is a major factor, but emphasized that the struggles are not solely attributable to one player.

"It’s not just one thing that’s going wrong. It’s a lot of things going wrong," Gronkowski explained. "The quarterback just not playing good ball, the offensive coordinator just not reading his team and not putting them in the right position. Offensive line is stinking it [up]. The wide receivers just not making the plays when they need to. It’s a collective of everything. Like, it’s in the air – it’s not just one thing."

He concluded, "So, you have to fix everything as a whole when you go down that low. …It’s football. It’s such a team game that one player can’t make you collapse the way they’re collapsing. It’s everyone as a whole."

The Chargers face a challenging schedule ahead, with upcoming games against the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens.
