Rob and Michele Reiner's $14 Million Mansion Could Be a Difficult Sell Following Tragic Murders
California law mandates disclosure of deaths within three years, potentially impacting the sale of the Brentwood home where the couple was allegedly murdered by their son.
The $14 million Brentwood mansion owned by Rob and Michele Reiner could face challenges in finding a buyer due to California's disclosure laws regarding deaths on a property. According to real estate advisor Corbin Scott, who has no affiliation with a potential sale, the Reiner family would be required to disclose the circumstances of Rob and Michele's deaths if they decided to sell the home.
California Civil Code Section 1710.2 requires property owners to disclose if an occupant has died or the manner of death if it occurred within three years of a potential buyer's offer. This means the Reiners would need to inform any prospective buyers about the alleged murders of Rob and Michele by their son, Nick, 33, which took place last year.
"Every state has different rules and the family would just need to follow California’s specific laws," Scott told Page Six. He added that while the sale is possible, the disclosure requirement could make it a "tougher sell" because the occupants were murdered and the perpetrator was not random.
Scott suggested that while some buyers might be deterred by the property's history, others could be interested. "If I represented the Reiner family, creative marketing and finding niche buyers who may like the notoriety of the property would be a top priority," he said. He also noted that the specific room where the crime occurred would likely require a complete remodel before any sale.
Rob and Michele Reiner purchased the six-bedroom, 5,245-square-foot Brentwood home in 1991 from producer Norman Lear. The property, originally built by Henry Fonda in 1936, was later owned by actor Paul Henreid before Lear acquired it.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Reiner, 70, were found dead in their home on December 14, 2025. The Los Angeles Police Department determined their deaths to be homicides. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested the same evening. Prosecutors allege Nick fatally stabbed his parents before fleeing the residence. He has been indicted on two counts of murder with special circumstances, including multiple murders and lying in wait. Nick has pleaded not guilty.
Earlier this week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office announced that they would not seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner if he is convicted. He faces a potential sentence of life in prison without parole. The couple is also survived by their children Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, as well as Rob's adopted daughter, Tracy, 62.
