A man in a blue SUV was filmed on Friday hurling threats at a mother and her toddler during a road rage incident on Highway 85 in North Carolina. The driver of the SUV nearly struck the car of Myeka Dunn, who was traveling with her three-year-old son.
Dunn stated that after the SUV cut her off, she honked her horn. The driver then allegedly slammed on his brakes in front of her vehicle. Dunn maneuvered her car around the SUV to create distance, but the driver caught up and again braked sharply in front of her. She then began recording the incident on her phone.
As Dunn drove past the SUV a second time, the driver rolled down his window and shouted, "You're going to die, you're going to die! I could kill you!" Dunn reported that the man continued his threats despite seeing her child in the car. Her son could be heard crying in the background of the recording.
After safely escaping the situation, Dunn contacted the Greensboro Police Department. According to Dunn, a dispatcher told her that nothing could be done because an officer had not witnessed the incident. Dunn expressed distress over the response, stating that her life and her child's life were put in danger and that the dispatcher did not seem concerned.
Dunn also contacted the Guilford Metro Police Department. Christine Moore, Guilford Deputy Director of Operations for 911, acknowledged that the dispatcher had mishandled the situation and should have gathered more information and requested the video. Moore stated that training would be provided to employees to prevent similar incidents.
The Greensboro Police Department issued a statement confirming they are aware of the video and have spoken with Dunn. Police identified the driver but indicated that Dunn would need to obtain a warrant for a misdemeanor charge from the Magistrate's Office because the incident did not occur in the presence of an officer. Dunn has stated her intention to press charges.
