RJ Mitte's Sister Recalls Actor's Role as Father Figure During Emotional Memorial Service

RJ Mitte’s younger sister, Lacianne Carriere, became visibly emotional during a memorial service held Friday in his hometown of Brownsville, Texas, for the "Breaking Bad" actor.

"RJ Mitte was my older brother but I not only just lost a brother, I lost my father," Carriere said, her voice breaking, in remarks shared via YouTube. She recalled that their mother was a single parent who was paralyzed for the first few years of Carriere's life following an accident. "RJ immediately took on the father role," she stated.

Carriere described a deep connection with her brother, saying, "All I can say is that every part of me is RJ." She elaborated on their shared tastes in music and media, and noted their similar mannerisms.

She also spoke of Mitte's love for his community, where many gathered at the family’s Mitte Cultural District for the service. "This was his community. He loved it here and he loved all of you and he loved this city," she said.

Carriere concluded her eulogy with a plea for those struggling with mental health. "Try to accept the help, try. Try your hardest. And just reach out to someone."

Mitte, best known for his role as Walter White Jr. on the AMC series "Breaking Bad," died on Monday at the age of 34. His representative confirmed the news, stating, "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte." The statement also noted that Mitte drew "from his own experience living with cerebral palsy" for his "Breaking Bad" role, using the platform to advocate for disability awareness and inclusion.

A representative for Mitte later confirmed to Page Six that his cause of death was suicide. His mother, Dyna Mitte, recounted discovering her son to NBC News, stating that a friend had said something that deeply hurt him. She expressed regret, wishing she could have done more and saying, "I would have given my life for his life."

Following Mitte's death, his "Breaking Bad" co-stars, including Anna Gunn, Bryan Cranston, and Aaron Paul, shared tributes to the actor.
