RJ Mitte's Co-Star Recounts Actor's Final Days Before Death
Luis Moncada described RJ Mitte as 'tired and sad' in the days leading up to his passing.
RJ Mitte, known for his role as Walter White Jr. in "Breaking Bad," died by suicide at the age of 34. His co-star Luis Moncada shared details of Mitte's final days, noting that the actor appeared "really tired and sad" in the week before his death.
Moncada recounted seeing Mitte at a charity golf tournament, which was their first reunion in some time. He observed that Mitte's demeanor was "different." Concerned, Moncada invited Mitte to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta the following day in an effort to lift his spirits.
During an appearance on "TMZ Live," Moncada, who played Marco Salamanca on "Breaking Bad," described Mitte as being "pulled in all kinds of directions" and "very conflicted." While Moncada declined to reveal the specifics of what Mitte shared with him, he indicated that the actor was struggling with "the stress of life" and various pressures.
Moncada recalled their last conversation, during which he invited Mitte to stay with him and his son. Mitte declined the offer but promised to call when he returned home. Moncada stated that the call never came.
Moncada, who portrayed a character in the Salamanca drug cartel family on "Breaking Bad," expressed that Mitte was "an amazing friend" and had supported him during a difficult period a few months prior. He shared that he urged Mitte not to face his struggles alone.
In a tribute post on Instagram, Moncada shared videos and photos of himself and Mitte, including footage from their recent hot air balloon ride. In one video, Mitte rests his head on Moncada's shoulder as they laugh together. Moncada captioned the post, "Rest in Peace RJ – I Love you Lil Brother ❤️."
Mitte, who was an advocate for disability rights, played Walter "Flynn" White Jr. for all five seasons of "Breaking Bad." His on-screen father, Bryan Cranston, paid tribute to him on social media, noting that he was "in deep despair" over the loss. Cranston highlighted Mitte's determination in overcoming challenges related to his cerebral palsy, which he was born with, stating that he never allowed it to be an excuse.
Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, also shared his grief, stating, "I am heartbroken over this news. RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed." He added a message of support for others, emphasizing that "you are loved, and you are not alone."
