Rihanna Mansion Shooter Indicted on Attempted Murder Charge
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz faces life in prison after being charged with attempted murder and multiple assault weapons offenses for firing into the singer's Beverly Hills home.
Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, has been indicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the March 8 incident where she allegedly fired an assault weapon multiple times into Rihanna's Beverly Hills mansion. The indictment, unsealed on Wednesday, also includes 10 counts of assault with an assault weapon and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors stated that Ortiz drove to the singer's home and fired into the residence while Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three young children, and other individuals were present. No one was injured in the shooting. "Every person deserves to feel safe in and around their home," District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement. "Shooting at an occupied home is a serious, violent crime that is both reckless and dangerous."
Ortiz, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is being held on $2.65 million bail and is due back in court on October 29. If convicted, she faces a sentence of up to life in prison. Authorities later apprehended Ortiz in Sherman Oaks, California.
In a previous hearing in April, it was revealed that Ortiz had allegedly traveled to the property with a loaded weapon, ammunition, and a disguise. Prosecutors indicated the incident could have resulted in multiple homicides, emphasizing that it was fortunate no one was killed.
Rihanna had previously informed authorities that she had received death threats via social media, though no recent incidents immediately came to mind that were associated with the shooting. Bullet holes were found on various parts of the property, including an exterior gate, a fence, a patio, a wall near a nursery, and the windshield of an Airstream trailer on the grounds. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were reportedly inside the trailer when the shooting occurred, while their children were in the nursery.
Ortiz, who subsequently lost her license to practice speech-language pathology, was deemed mentally competent to stand trial after a four-month evaluation, according to The Los Angeles Times. She has faced prior arrests for alleged domestic violence and battery in 2023, careless driving two years prior, and was linked to a 2013 bankruptcy. Ortiz had also made social media posts mentioning Rihanna, including one in February that read, "Say something to me directly instead of sneaking around."
