Ridley Scott's 'The Dog Stars' Arrives on Digital Amidst Box Office Disappointment

Ridley Scott's latest film, "The Dog Stars," is now available on digital platforms for purchase and rental, following a disappointing theatrical run. The film, based on Peter Heller's 2012 novel of the same name, was written for the screen by Mark L. Smith. It depicts a world ravaged by a pandemic that has nearly extinguished humanity, leaving survivors in a constant struggle for existence.

The movie stars Jacob Elordi as Hig, a former pilot accompanied by his dog, and Josh Brolin as his friend Bangley. Together, they embark on a journey to find a safer place to live, eventually crossing paths with a medic named Cima, played by Margaret Qualley.

"The Dog Stars" struggled at the box office, failing to recoup a significant portion of its production budget. Despite this, the film may find a new audience through digital distribution.

Fans looking to watch "The Dog Stars" at home can purchase or rent it on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home starting October 27, 2026. The digital purchase price on Amazon Prime Video is set at $24.99.

A DVD release date has not yet been announced. The film is also expected to become available for streaming on Hulu, a platform owned by Disney, which also owns 20th Century Studios, the distributor of "The Dog Stars." While some 20th Century films are released on Disney+, the studio's R-rated content typically lands on the more adult-oriented Hulu.

Based on the release patterns of previous 20th Century films, "The Dog Stars" could begin streaming on Hulu around December 2026. For instance, "Send Help," another 20th Century release, became available on Hulu slightly over three months after its theatrical debut and about a month after its digital release. If "The Dog Stars" follows a similar timeline, its streaming debut on Hulu might occur in late November or early December 2026.
