Billionaire Rick Caruso has unveiled the first images of his new private lake club, the Miramar Lake Club, ahead of its opening this fall. The club is located behind the gates of the Sherwood community near Thousand Oaks.
Caruso, known for developing The Grove, The Americana at Brand, and The Commons at Calabasas, is expanding into private hospitality with the Miramar Lake Club. The waterfront property is situated in the Santa Monica Mountains and aims to offer members a combination of golf, dining, and social experiences.
The property was formerly known as the Sherwood Lake Club and changed ownership earlier this year following the death of its previous owner, David H. Murdock, who built Dole Food Co. into a major fruit and vegetable producer.
Caruso told The Hollywood Reporter that he knew Murdock well and recognized the quality of his developments. He saw acquiring a part of the Sherwood development, including its own club, as a unique opportunity.
Club Features and Design
The Miramar Lake Club features an 18-hole, par-3 golf course designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. According to Caruso, this layout is one of only two in the world and the only one in the United States, designed to accommodate both beginners and experienced golfers.
Caruso stated that the project's development was influenced by the increasing popularity of golf, with participation rates rising by more than 50% over the past decade. He envisions the Miramar Lake Club as a forward-looking golf destination that is more welcoming, dynamic, and experience-focused.
Beyond the golf course, members will have access to an 18,000-square-foot clubhouse, a resort-style pool, modern fitness and training facilities, tennis courts, and wellness amenities. The club will also feature a culinary program, including a signature restaurant concept led by an award-winning chef whose identity has not yet been announced.
A schedule of social events is also planned to enhance the membership experience, with Caruso aiming to create a space where members can foster connections both on and off the golf course. The club shares its name with Caruso's Rosewood Miramar Beach resort in Montecito.
