Richie Akiva Celebrates 50th Birthday, Teases 1Oak Nightclub's Permanent Return to NYC
The nightlife impresario marked his milestone birthday at the iconic venue, signaling its comeback after a pandemic-induced closure and eviction.
Nightlife impresario Richie Akiva celebrated his 50th birthday at his renowned 1Oak nightclub, fueling speculation and excitement about the venue's permanent return to New York City.
Akiva, who declared, "I’m just glad we’re back home. I’m glad to give NYC a home again," hosted a celebratory event that drew notable figures including Busta Rhymes, Trey Songz, Tyriq Withers, and Zack Bia. The gathering occurred as Akiva and partner Darren Dzienciol are reportedly working to re-establish 1Oak, which previously operated a Los Angeles location. Sources suggest they aim to open a permanent downtown space by February.
The original 1Oak venue, a staple for celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z, closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It later faced eviction from its West 17th Street location due to significant unpaid rent, though Akiva's representative stated the funds were eventually recouped.
The recent birthday celebration, however, points to a resurgence. Attendees described the atmosphere as reminiscent of the club's heyday, with many eager to gain entry. The event continued into the early morning hours, with the party extending to Socialista downtown after 1Oak closed at 5 a.m.
Notable guests also included art dealer Helly Nahmad and Tao Group's Noah Tepperberg. DJs Cruz, Spade, and Marty Rock provided music for the occasion. During the celebration, Akiva became emotional, acknowledging the support of his sister.
Earlier in the week, a New York Fashion Week party hosted by Akiva attracted a high-profile crowd, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Winnie Harlow, Future, Ice Spice, and Anwar Hadid, further underscoring the buzz around his nightlife ventures.
