Former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has voiced significant concerns regarding the team's interior offensive line, labeling it an "obvious place of concern" just prior to the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
On his podcast, Sherman highlighted that the 49ers did not adequately strengthen this area during the offseason. He noted the team was trading for interior offensive linemen only a week before the season, indicating a lack of preparedness for facing formidable defensive lines in the league.
"We knew that two years ago. And that’s the part where, I don’t really get it," Sherman stated, referencing the team's long-standing issue. He questioned the strategy of approaching matchups against "the most dynamic defensive lines in the league in LA and Seattle," specifically mentioning Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, and Seattle's defensive threats.
Sherman also raised questions about the depth at the cornerback position for San Francisco. He suggested that these issues prevent the 49ers from being placed in the same Super Bowl favorite tier as the Rams and Seahawks, who he believes have fewer question marks at key positions.
The 49ers' offensive line has been a subject of discussion, and Sherman believes this weakness could be particularly exposed when the team faces the Rams. Los Angeles boasts two of the most dominant defensive linemen in the sport, making the interior offensive line a critical matchup in their upcoming September 10th game. IMAGE4
