Author and television presenter Richard Osman has playfully responded to a recent survey that revealed a significant number of British voters mistook him for the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. The poll, conducted by JL Partners for The Independent, found that 38% of voters, approximately 18 million people, could not identify the Prime Minister from a photograph.

Osman shared a screenshot of an article detailing the survey's findings on Instagram, quipping, "Richard Osman's House Of Commons," a reference to his BBC show "Richard House Of Games." His wife, Ingrid Oliver, joined in the jest, humorously suggesting his platform would focus on "devolution of power away from Westminster towards the World Snooker Federation." Osman then joked that his "Chancellor" would be snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan.

The Independent reported that some voters mistook Burnham for various public figures, including Osman, actor Mel Gibson, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and even former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Social media users also reacted to the survey results, with some expressing disbelief at the confusion.

This incident follows a discussion on Osman's podcast, "The Rest Is Entertainment," which he co-hosts with Marina Hyde. The duo had previously questioned whether Burnham was "actually cool" and analyzed his "indie-kid" credentials. Osman has also been vocal about his views on celebrities engaging in political commentary. In 2024, he advised politically vocal celebrities to cease sharing their opinions publicly, stating that "nobody is listening to you." He argued that elections are concerned with voters' immediate concerns like their homes, towns, and safety, and that celebrity opinions in this context are ineffective and potentially counterproductive.
