Richard E. Grant's Radio Gaffe Follows 'Traitors' Slip-Up

Actor Richard E. Grant made a premature announcement of a radio prize winner on Capital FM on Friday, a gaffe he attributed to a habit of "getting to the punchline too quickly." This incident follows a similar public slip-up on the celebrity version of "The Traitors," where Grant revealed himself as a traitor early in the competition.

On Friday's broadcast, Grant called Andy, a ceramic tiler from Essex, to inform him he had won a record £1.25 million, the largest prize in UK radio history. However, Grant revealed the news immediately upon Andy answering the phone, bypassing any build-up. "I have a tendency to get to the punchline too quickly sometimes," Grant remarked after congratulating the surprised winner.

Andy expressed his disbelief and shared plans for a long-desired family holiday to Mauritius, a trip previously out of reach financially. "We couldn't afford that so it was just a dream, really, we were trying to go there one day, but hopefully that day has arrived!" he said.

Grant's participation in "Celebrity Traitors" has been tumultuous. In the show's second episode, he directly confessed to being a traitor when questioned by fellow contestant Joe. This confession has placed him in a precarious position within the game, with his fate uncertain as the show heads into its next roundtable.

Despite Grant's early reveal, the launch episode of the celebrity series attracted a record-breaking nine million viewers, surpassing previous premieres for "The Traitors UK." The show's second mission involved contestants being buried alive in pairs in coffins, a challenge that led Jerry Hall to withdraw, citing fear.

During the first roundtable, Grant faced scrutiny for his self-incriminating statement. Fellow contestants like Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhalgh and comedian Romesh Ranganathan acknowledged the difficulty Grant's honesty presented for the 'Faithfuls'. Viewers on social media platform X have expressed a range of reactions, from disbelief that he might survive to enjoyment of his entertainment value and respect for his handling of the error.
