Richard Arnold, a presenter on Good Morning Britain (GMB), has confirmed he married his partner of 23 years in a low-key ceremony in London over the weekend. The news was initially met with confusion after Arnold posted a photo on Instagram on Saturday, leading many to believe it was an engagement announcement.
Arnold, 56, clarified the situation on Monday's GMB, revealing that he and his partner, Stuart, had exchanged vows on Friday. The presenter admitted to borrowing his kilt from the show's prop cupboard for the occasion. He explained that he informed his mother of the wedding only hours before the ceremony, noting that she is currently not in the best of health.
Arnold apologized for the misunderstanding caused by his Instagram post, which included an engagement ring emoji. He lightheartedly attributed the confusion to "middle-aged men" and their use of mobile phones. He also referred to Stuart as his "husband" for the first time publicly during the show.
The wedding was described as a "low-key, non-fussed" affair. Arnold recounted leaving GMB on Friday, collecting some drinks, and then informing his mother of his impending marriage. Their cockapoo, Clementine, also participated in the celebrations, wearing a bow that read "I do too."
Fellow GMB hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls shared their congratulations. Arnold has generally kept his relationship private but has been with Stuart since the early 2000s. He has occasionally mentioned his partner on air, including a humorous anecdote about an argument over a shower attachment.
Arnold, who joined GMTV as a TV critic in 1997, later became the Entertainment Editor for GMB when the show launched in 2014. He had previously expressed a desire to marry his partner, stating in 2024 that they had been together for 19 years and he was "waiting" for a ring.
