Retired Detective Arrested in Fatal George Washington Bridge Road Rage Shooting

A retired NYPD detective was arrested Wednesday in the fatal shooting of Koran Irvine, 46, on the George Washington Bridge, an incident believed to be motivated by road rage. Irvine, a father of two, was shot around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday on the New Jersey-bound upper level of the bridge.

Investigators are processing the suspect, who retired from the NYPD 25 years ago, and he is awaiting charges. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators appears to show Irvine's vehicle suddenly swerving as the suspect's car pulled alongside. Police preliminarily believe a single shot was fired, striking Irvine in the right shoulder after passing through the rear window and a headrest. Irvine's vehicle then veered into the median.

Irvine was transported to Englewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He is remembered by loved ones as a devoted family man and a fan of the New York Jets, described as a "jokester" who prioritized making others laugh and feel good. "He is always the light of the party," a cousin told The Post. "He had so much life, was very attentive to everyone, always wanted to know people's needs. He was so inviting."
