FOX Chicago reporter Devan Kaney recently responded to a fan who accused her of being a "Philly turncoat" after she transitioned to covering the Chicago Bears.
Kaney, 35, was laid off earlier this year from her position as the sideline reporter for Audacy-owned WIP's Eagles broadcasts. She subsequently joined FOX Chicago as a Bears reporter.
A fan tweeted at Kaney, "Enjoy your Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls & Blackhawks you Philly turncoat. I guess everyone has a price." Kaney replied, "Yeah a price like getting paid a living wage. Getting real sick of Philly people attacking me for doing what’s best for my career. Maybe turn your attention inwards and ask why Philly sports media has so few opportunities for women or people of color instead."
Kaney, a lifelong Eagles fan, had been named the sideline reporter for WIP's Eagles coverage following Howard Eskin's departure from the station in late 2024. Eskin's exit came after accusations of "forcibly grabbing" a woman, which he denied.
Kaney received support from other journalists and fans in the replies to her statement. Sports Illustrated Eagles writer Jeff Kerr commented, "I don’t think people understand how hard it is to get good jobs in this industry—but I digress."
Prior to her role with WIP, Kaney also served as a weekend anchor and reporter for Fox 29 and was an in-arena host for the Philadelphia Flyers.
Kaney had previously stated she felt "blindsided" by her layoff in April. She told bizjournals.com, "It was naive of me to assume I was more valued than I was." Kaney had a role on one of WIP's morning radio shows and had signed a two-year contract extension with the network the previous year before Audacy implemented layoffs.
