Reporter Denies Involvement in Kings Hot Mic Controversy

Tristi Rodriguez, a reporter covering the Sacramento Kings, has issued a statement to refute speculation that she was one of the female reporters heard in a viral hot mic recording. The audio clip, which captured two reporters discussing NBA players Ben Simmons and Zach LaVine, circulated widely on social media.

Rodriguez, who works for NBC Sports Bay Area, addressed the situation in a post on X. She stated that she was "dragged into something that had nothing to do with me" and that her reputation was unfairly damaged. "To be very clear—that was not my voice at Kings Media Day," Rodriguez wrote.

She expressed a desire to clear her name, not for those who sent "horrific messages" online, but for herself and for those who know her professional conduct. Rodriguez thanked her supporters for their messages and affirmed her commitment to her job, stating she is "looking forward to another exciting NBA season and continuing to do what I do best — my job."

The incident involved comments made by reporters during the Kings' media day. One voice on the recording remarked about Ben Simmons, "He’s lucky he’s so fine," and another added, "He's a good looking dude! I didn’t notice, his skin is so smooth." The conversation then shifted to Zach LaVine, with one reporter saying, "Hella fine!" followed by, "He’s beautiful."
