Reporter and Cameraman Struck by SUV During Live Broadcast in Mexico
TV news crew narrowly escapes serious injury while reporting on roadside dangers.
A Mexican television reporter and her cameraman were struck by an out-of-control SUV while broadcasting live on Morones Prieto Avenue in Monterrey, Nuevo León. The incident occurred Friday morning as correspondent Alma de la Rosa Flores was reporting on the dangers posed by a recent landslide and ongoing traffic hazards.
Flores and cameraman Cristo Martínez, both with Gamavisión Noticias, were initially covering an earlier accident involving a motorcyclist. Flores was also providing an update on debris from a landslide in the Nuevo Repueblo neighborhood following heavy rainfall.
Extraordinary footage captured the moment a dark-colored Jeep lost control while traveling on the wet road. The vehicle veered sharply towards the side of the road, skidding and rotating directly at the news crew. Flores attempted to move out of the way as the SUV barreled towards them.
Both Flores and Martínez miraculously survived the collision and were reported to be in stable condition. They were transported to a local hospital by ambulance. Martínez sustained injuries to his ankle and arm, while Flores, a veteran journalist with 35 years of experience, reported multiple blows but was able to walk to the ambulance under her own power.
The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene, and authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Morones Prieto Avenue is known as a busy thoroughfare that has been the site of numerous accidents.
Footage of the incident quickly circulated on social media, drawing widespread disbelief and well wishes for the recovery of the journalists.
