Rep. Tiffany Claims Harris Visit to Wisconsin Signals Weakness for Democratic Candidate
Tiffany asserts Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign stop for David Crowley indicates struggles to mobilize voters before Election Day.
Rep. Tom Tiffany, a Republican candidate for Wisconsin governor, claims that Vice President Kamala Harris' recent visit to the state to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Crowley signifies that Crowley's campaign is struggling to energize voters.
Harris visited Milwaukee on Monday, eight days before the election, to rally with Crowley. "This is clearly a move that says that they're struggling to get their base to vote. David Crowley has not excited the base," Tiffany told Fox News Digital. He suggested that Harris was brought in to counter a perceived lack of enthusiasm within the Democratic base, attributing this to national political fatigue.
Tiffany also criticized Crowley's nomination, stating, "It was, once again, the Democrats that pulled somebody off the bench. They handpicked them rather than letting democracy work in their own party, and there's people very frustrated with that. They're trying to excite their base, and it's a problem for them."
Tiffany has presented himself as a candidate focused on pragmatic solutions, contrasting himself with Crowley, the current Milwaukee County executive. Tiffany argued that Crowley's record indicates a tendency to raise taxes, stating, "It's not in his DNA to reduce costs for people in Wisconsin or to reduce taxes. He is going to raise taxes. That's what he's done every single year when he's been county executive. That's not what people want to hear."
A spokesperson for Crowley's campaign responded to Tiffany's claims by highlighting Crowley's plans to address affordability issues amidst inflation. The spokesperson blamed Tiffany and the Trump administration for the economic challenges faced by working families and asserted that Crowley has a record of lowering costs and property taxes as county executive. "David has spent his career lowering costs for working families, including balancing the budget and lowering the property tax rate every single year as county executive," the spokesperson said. "Meanwhile, Tom Tiffany went to Washington and sold out working Wisconsinites to give the same billionaires funding his campaign massive tax breaks."
