Rep. Salazar Highlights Endorsement from Colombian President in Re-election Bid
Florida Republican María Elvira Salazar touts support from President Abelardo de la Espriella, who has also been a significant campaign donor.
Rep. María Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., is emphasizing the support of Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella as she campaigns for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. In a video shared on social media, de la Espriella referred to Salazar as his nation's "best friend" in the American Congress. Salazar, in turn, expressed pride in the endorsement and highlighted her commitment to representing Colombian constituents in South Florida.
"Abelardo has in me a friend. Colombia, an ally. And Colombians, a steadfast voice in the United States Congress," Salazar stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter, accompanying the video. She had previously endorsed de la Espriella for election earlier this year.
President de la Espriella, who is a Colombian-American citizen and owns property within Salazar's congressional district, along with his wife, has contributed nearly $90,000 to her campaigns, according to NBC News.
Salazar, who has served in the House of Representatives since early 2021, is facing Democratic challenger Eliott Rodriguez in her re-election bid.
